Andrew L. Thompson

My association with art and jazz music evolved over three decades. I started listening to the jazz musicians such as John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and other great jazz artists as a young college art student at the University of Texas (Arlington) in the mid-60s. I learned to appreciate this art form by frequenting jazz clubs and concerts in the metropolitan areas of Dallas/Fort Worth. This deep love and passion for both ‘art’ and ‘jazz music’continues today. While I never played a musical instrument, I have always been inspired to paint the colors of jazz.

These paintings are a tribute to jazz and its importance in American History. The terminology of music and art are very similar; and I paint with the same emotions on canvas that jazz musician make with their notes in a musical score.
