These paintings are a tribute
to jazz and its importance
in American History. The terminology
of music and art are very
similar; and I paint with
the same emotions on canvas
that jazz musician make with
their notes in a musical score.

listening to jazz
musicians such
as Dizzy Gillespie,
Charlie Parker,
and Charlie Christian
(from Dallas).
These great musicians
were major contributors
to the “bebop”
style of jazz
which is a harmonically
complex style
of music. This
painting has color
harmony as well
as movement, rhythm
and balance. The
combination of
these elements
in Group Session
suggests the atmosphere
of a jazz concert.
